about

Take in Warren’s “bandwidth to care” and dare to think twice about what your ears are trying to tell you. It is a document of practice that engages meaningfully with synthetic sound. “today i heard two voices” conjures a bird with broken wings, a pained purr and a coo slowly obliterated by a piercing light. In “the right to breathe” drones go awry, and are then interrupted by stunted growth — an incessant, ritualistic churning and hollow, lifeless clanking ensue. “heartthaw” offers a nervous twitch and a prayer — worn beads sink to the bottom of a darkened sea. “black are our battles, green are our fields” is an observance of therapeutic noise — rasping amphibians plunge into the canals of the hearing apparatus and disintegrate into charged static. The EP is a collection of work that shakes the bones and blurs the line between feelings of exhilaration and delirium. It reminds us that we still live in a time when only some have a choice, and that those privileged few should choose to care. -- Laura Cetilia

Composed on Narragansett land (aka Providence) in early 2024, "the bandwidth to care" is by turns noise, catharsis, meditation, and rest. It includes recordings previously made on analog synthesizers including an ARP 2500 thanks to Brown University, along with samples made from an air purifier, a broken cassette player, a scream, and more. With both numbing and energizing sounds, the EP asks listeners whether they have the bandwidth to care about all they are hearing in the world today.
